Tofino quake tests B.C.’s earthquake alert system in development

Last week’s 4.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Tofino, B.C., enabled researchers working on an early warning system on the B.C. coast to demonstrate its effectiveness.

Researchers with Ocean Networks Canada told CBC News the seismic sensor network detected the primary wave from the quake last week and provided a 35-second advance warning.
