The B.C. government is providing $23.4 million to 49 First Nations and local governments to better prepare for climate-related emergencies such as floods and extreme temperatures.
Bowinn Ma, the minister of emergency management and climate readiness, says projects receiving funding will make a big difference for First Nations and communities throughout B.C. in their efforts to keep lives and livelihoods safe from potential disasters.
The projects include a new dike on the Coldwater River in Merritt, misting stations to keep people cool in Victoria and designing upgrades to the Chilliwack Creek drainage pump station.
The investments are the latest to come from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.
